History of Golden Research Center of Education for Visually Impaired
China has a huge population (1.3 billion), with 70 percent of all
Chinese citizens living in the countryside. Although China has made
significant progress in giving rural children access to basic
education, the vast majority of disabled children have absolutely
no chance of receiving any form of education whatsoever. Poverty
and disability go hand in hand and visually impaired children may
be the most marginalized and vulnerable members of the community.
Access to education is the key to bringing visually impaired people
into mainstream society. The Golden Key Research Center of
Education for Visually Impaired in Beijing is the only Chinese
organization specifically committed to promoting the education of
the visually impaired in China.
